Dermal Fillers

What are they?

Dermal fillers were first introduced in early 1970’s. They are injectable products/implants used for soft tissue augmentation. They have become a very popular means of addressing several signs of aging including restoring volume loss, wrinkles, skin folds and some scars.

What does the treatment involve?

The procedure is simple, quick and well tolerated. Possible side effects include redness, bruising, swelling and tenderness. Hypersensitivity reactions are very rare. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and the results are evident immediately after treatment.

There are numerous types of dermal fillers available that differ in their indication, effectiveness, safety and longevity of results.

Dermal Fillers are used to treat:

  • Upper and lower lip lines
  • Lip augmentation
  • Frown lines
  • Deep smile lines
  • Facial scars and skin depressions
  • Tear Troughs
  • Smooth out facial wrinkles and folds
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Fill hollowed temples
  • Jaw line/Chin augmentation
  • Scars

What does result depend on?

To achieve the desirable outcome and longevity expected of filler treatment depends largely on the correct choice of filler type, the right filler viscosity and the correct placement of the filler chosen. The wrong choice or placement of filler may result in unsatisfactory treatment outcome and undesirable side effects some of which may be serious.

AT Al Nour clinic, we pride ourselves on our long and extensive experience in the field of fillers gained over 16 years of work in the field and training with both local and international experts. Not only that our results have been superior and reproducible with excellent patient satisfaction rates and very low complication rate.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a smooth injectable gel also made from the natural complex sugar Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is found naturally in human skin. HA assists in skin hydration by attracting and holding water. It also combines with collagen and elastin to improve skin structure and elasticity.

Juvederm has been available in Europe since 2000, and was approved for use in Australia in 2006. It can be used to enhance lips and smooth out facial wrinkles and folds. It can also be used to augment cheeks.

Juvederm can be used to correct and lift wrinkles, restore volume and enhance general facial appearance. In its varying range of viscosities, it is suited for both superficial and deep placement in the face to achieve harmonious effects. It can be used to augment lips, restore volume loss and contour in cheeks, temples and jaw line. It can also be used to fill wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial and marionette lines.

The procedure takes less than an hour. Results are immediate. Results vary from 12 to 24 months depending on the product used and the area injected.

Restylane

Restylane is a clear, transparent and viscous gel containing non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid which is a natural component of human skin. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases resulting in drier wrinkled skin. Restylane works with skins natural hyaluronic acid to create the volume needed to lift fine lines and wrinkles.

It is commonly used to treat upper and lower lip lines, frown lines, deep smile lines. It is also very popular for augmenting lip volume. Possible side effects include redness, pain, itching, swelling and bruising. Hypersensitivity reactions are very rare.

Sculptra

Sculptra was introduced in Australia in March 2002 after proving very successful in Europe for four years. Poly-L-lactive acid (PLA), the main component of Sculptra, has been used in plastic and reconstructive surgery for more than 20 years. It is indicated for correction of skin depressions such as creases, wrinkles, folds, scars and eye rings.

It is particularly valuable for correction of large volume loss associated with ageing or medical conditions (Lipoatrophy).

Results are not seen immediately. Improvement is usually seen in 2 weeks and may take up to 3 months for full results to manifest. Top ups at monthly intervals may be needed to achieve the optimum results.

Results are shown to last over two years.
