Chemical Peels

AFAs are a new and unique cosmeceuticals. “AFA” is an acronym for Amino acid Filaggrin based Antioxidants. Filaggrin is a protein naturally present in the upper layer of the skin, the epidermis. It is metabolised into several amino acids considered to be the primary agents responsible for the skin’s ability to retain moisture. These amino acids are the same amino acids used in AFA cosmeceuticals.

In addition to their great moisture retention properties, AFAs have other characteristics making them an invaluable anti-ageing and skin rejuvenating tool. AFAs are potent antioxidants, strong exfoliants and proven to work well against photopigmentation. Unlike some other cosmeceuticals, AFAs are not photosensitizing, carry a very low risk of irritating the skin and can be used in tandem with other cosmetic procedures including IPL.

AFA peels come in 5 different strengths, one of which is applicable to neck and upper chest, the rest are reserved for face treatments.

A course of six treatments spaced fortnightly is usually recommended. The strength of the peel is usually judged on individual basis. The treatment takes about 1/2 an hour after which patients can resume normal daily routines.

AFA peels are certainly an effective adjuvant to traditional therapies that can rapidly, effectively and safely reduce photo ageing and restore a healthy tone and texture to the skin.
